Burmese army admits to killing Rohingya

Facebook (FB) Stock Price, Financials and News | Fortune 500

Fortify Rights, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch have described the admission that ethnic Rakhine villagers and security forces killed 10 Royingya Muslims in Inn Dinn village on September 2 previous year as the "tip of the iceberg", and want an international investigation.

Refugees who have fled in their hundreds of thousands to neighbouring Bangladesh have given consistent accounts of massacres, rape and torture by Myanmar security forces flanked by ethnic Rakhine mobs.

The military's statement on Wednesday said due to ongoing attacks, security forces deemed it impossible to bring the 10 men to the police station and decided instead to execute the suspects at the village cemetery on the morning after their capture.

The army's unprecedented acknowledgement came after months of denial of any wrongdoing towards the persecuted Rohingya minority.

Government forces had been conducting a "clearance operation" in a region about 30 miles north of the state capital of Sittwe when "200 Bengali terrorists attacked using sticks and swords".

For a while, Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar have been subject to what a United Nations official called "textbook" ethnic cleansing.

The military refers to members of the Rohingya Muslim minority as "Bengalis", a term the Rohingya reject as implying they are illegal migrants from Bangladesh.

Fortify Rights, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch described the admission that ethnic Rakhine villagers and security forces killed 10 Royingya Muslims in Inn Dinn village on September 2, 2018 as the "tip of the iceberg", and urged an international investigation.

Google secretly acquired a United Kingdom startup that could make smartphone speakers obsolete
I am not sure but the display-speaker integration may also help Google improve the haptic feedback on their phones. No word on how much it paid, but the $5 million Redux raised in March suggests it could be around that figure.

"The full extent of the violations and crimes against the Rohingya and other ethnic minorities will not be known until the UN Fact-Finding Mission and other independent observers are given unfettered access to Myanmar, and in particular Rakhine State". "Such behaviour shows a contempt for human life which is simply beyond comprehension", he said.

Aung San Suu Kyi said she knows the worldwide community has great interest in the Rohingya issue.

"The army is saying the ten are connected to the insurgency group".

"I have spoken to many eye witnesses. They were on the run because the Inn Dinn village was under siege by the Myanmar government", he said.

The military said on Wednesday its investigation had found that members of the security forces had killed the 10 and that action would be taken against them.

Lwin attributed the military's rare admission to the arrest of two Reuters journalists in December.

The post on Facebook also gave the first confirmation of a mass Rohingya grave inside Rakhine state.
