United States stocks close mixed after earnings reports

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 77.92 points, or 0.3 percent, to 26,470.71, the S&P 500 gained 13.42 points, or 0.47 percent, to 2,852.67 and the Nasdaq Composite added 42.01 points, or 0.57 percent, to 7,453.17.

A key world stock market index extended gains on Friday, putting it on track for its longest weekly winning streak since 1999, while Intel's results boosted stocks on Wall Street and the U.

Oil prices settled higher on Friday after hitting three-year highs, with crude also posting a weekly gain as a weaker USA dollar underpinned prices.

The S&P 500 jumped 1.2 percent, its biggest daily percentage gain since March 1.

Intel's shares surged as high as $49.95, the highest level since October 2000, and were last up 9.81 percent after results indicated that the chipmaker's shift to higher-margin data-center business was working.

Of the 133 S&P 500 companies that have reported quarterly earnings so far, 79.7 percent have topped expectations, versus an average of 72 percent over the previous four quarters.
