Federal Bureau of Investigation deputy director stepping down from post

Rep. John Lewis D-Ga. listens during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Jan. 11 2017

FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe stepped down Monday, ahead of his planned retirement in March, according to multiple reports.

He will immediately go on leave and plans to retire when he becomes eligible in mid-March.

McCabe has been expected to leave the bureau for weeks, but the abrupt Monday afternoon resignation stunned FBI officials and came just days after his boss, Director Christopher Wray, suggested demoting him over an upcoming inspector general report, two people with knowledge of the matter told the New York Times. President Trump and his allies have made McCabe a favorite target of criticism in recent months.

McCabe has become a target of Republican lawmakers and the Republican president in connection with the FBI's investigation into Clinton's use of a private email server while she served as USA secretary of state.

The FBI's inspector general launched a probe previous year into whether McCabe had any conflicts of interest in the Clinton investigation.

Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders pushed back against suggestions that President Trump had anything to do with McCabe's ouster.

Cambodia charges Canadians, other foreigners after 'pornographic dance' arrests
If convicted, they face up to a year in prison. "There were about 30 of them (police officers)", he said. These are the tourists alleged to have been arrested on indecency charges in Cambodia .

"FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe is racing the clock to retire with full benefits".

"The president was not part of this decision-making process", she said.

"He had enough of being undermined and criticized", this source said.

Sanders added the White House had no hand in McCabe's decision to step down. "The past several weeks and months have seen worrisome evidence of bias and wrongdoing at the Federal Bureau of Investigation come to light, including Peter Strzok's "insurance policy" that was discussed in 'Andy's office.' This behavior is not befitting of America's premiere law enforcement agency, which, like Justice itself, must be impartial", Gaetz asserted via statement from his Congressional office.

Last week, The Washington Post reported that after James Comey was sacked in May 2017 and McCabe assumed the director's job on an acting basis, the president asked him in a private discussion whom he had voted for in the presidential election. Later that day, The Washington Post reported that during a meeting in the Oval Office Trump once asked McCabe how he voted. "I would say a man who is more or less in charge of her, the wife got $500,000 from Terry".
