CIA Director: China Has More Potential to Harm US

Russia's President Vladimir Putin

The four-page memo has become a political flashpoint, with President Donald Trump and many Republicans pushing for its release and suggesting that some in the Justice Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation have conspired against the president, reports AP.

Russian Federation is accused of meddling in the 2016 US presidential election and Special Counsel Robert Mueller is investigating the allegations, which Moscow denies, and if there was any collusion involving US President Donald Trump's associates.

"I haven't seen a significant decrease in their activity", he said.

Pompeo said the U.S. is trying to counter Russian sabotage, identifying those behind the efforts and using technology to deter Moscow.

Asked if the Russians would try to influence the mid-term elections, he said: "Of course".

"What we know is that the Russians are still deeply aligned with Donald Trump's political future", said Murphy.

"The Russians have a long history of these information campaigns".

He also told the BBC that China remains a considerable threat to the U.S. "I have every expectation that they will continue to try and do that but I'm..."

Investigators also chased 1,965 leads in the case, reviewed more than 21,000 hours of footage and issued 1,062 legal notices. The FBI has "an ongoing case against an individual of federal interest", Lombardo said, declining to elaborate.

The CIA chief who is a former hard-line Republican congressman also cited efforts by the Chinese to steal United States commercial information and infiltration of schools and hospitals - and this extended to Europe and the UK.

Despite this, he told the BBC he was "confident that America will be able to have a free and fair election". "We see it in our schools".

"While President Trump stands practically idle, Mr. Putin continues to refine his asymmetric arsenal and look for future opportunities to disrupt governance and erode support for the democratic and worldwide institutions that the United States and Europe have built over the last 70 years".

Mr Pompeo also defended Mr Trump over accusations from a book that suggested the President is unfocused, unprepared and unfit for his office.

He also said North Korea may have the ability to strike the United States with nuclear missiles "in a handful of months".

During the BBC interview, Mr Pompeo also commented on his working relationship with President Trump - saying he provides the US President with intelligence briefings nearly every day the two men are in Washington DC.

"I don't think we should assume that democracy is going to stick around for the next 200 years", he said. "Whatever the facts may be, we deliver them unvarnished as accurately and forcefully we can".
