Father who tried to attack Nassar in court says he's "no hero"

Randall Margraves father of three victims of Larry Nassar lunged at Nassar bottom right on Friday in Eaton County Circuit Court in Michigan

Randall Margraves speaks about Larry Nassar during during press conference on Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at the Grewal Law office in Okemos.

During the current sentencing hearing in Eaton County in which several more of his victims have given impact statements and are scheduled to give impact statements, sisters Lauren and Madison Margraves both delivered their impact statements.

Margraves' daughters had also described the impact on their parents. However, he would still explain why he attempted to attack Nassar. His comments to the judge spawned the hashtag #GiveHimAMinute.

A newspaper reports that at least 40 girls and women say they were molested by a MI sports doctor over a 14-month period that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was aware that Larry Nassar had been accused of molesting elite gymnasts. And, when they were injured in those sports, they took them to a world-renowned doctor.

"I'm not here to upstage my daughters". Margraves then rushed at Nassar, and was restrained and arrested by court security officials. Sheriff's deputies tackled Margraves. "Give me one minute with that bastard". On Friday, he said he had not yet heard his daughter's testimony.

In Friday's courtroom appearance, Margraves had demanded "five minutes alone with that demon", and when the judge refused, asked for one minute. "And my heart does go out to you and your family because of what you've gone through" said Judge Cunningham.

In the latest fallout from the scandal, Valeri Liukin, the coordinator of the US women's gymnastics team, said on Friday that he was resigning.

Margraves then lunged at Nassar, who was sitting nearby. She said she and her sisters had found it hard to speak to their father about their experiences. But she added that the family realizes "justice can not be served through one individual". "I believe in heaven and hell. The reason was Larry Nassar". He returned a few hours later to apologize to Judge Janice Cunningham, who said there was "no way" she would punish him under her contempt of court powers.

The judge replied that was not an option and rebuked Margraves for his vulgar language in calling Nassar "a son of a bitch" in court.

Mick Grewal, Margraves' lawyer, said he's been in communication with the sheriff and prosecutor and hoped to avoid charges.

A father, whose three daughters were sexually abused by the former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar lost his calm during a court hearing and lunged at the accused, bringing the sentencing to an abrupt halt in MI on Friday.

During an earlier hearing after Nassar pleaded guilty to molesting young women under the guise of medical treatment, he was sentenced to up to 175 years in prison.

The Judge is expected to stay within the 25 to 40-year sentence agreed to in the plea bargain when she hands down her sentence. But he wasn't publicly exposed until The Indianapolis Star published allegations by a victim in 2016. The IndyStar, part of the USA TODAY Network, revealed the first allegations of abuse by Larry Nassar.
