Trump wishes disgraced aide well after domestic abuse allegations

When John Kelly was hired as Donald Trump's second chief of staff he made very clear that his focus would be not on managing the President but on managing the White House staff

President Trump defended the ex-White House staffer who resigned this week over allegations he abused two of his ex-wives.

Instead, Trump said, 'As you probably know, he says he's innocent.

'He did a very good job when he was in the White House and we hope he has a wonderful career, and hopefully he will have a great career ahead of him'.

This is a developing story and will be updated.

Reporters grilled White House spokesman Raj Shah about the Trump administration's handling of the allegations, which they reportedly knew about for weeks. It's obviously a tough time for him, ' Trump said.

It is unusual for senior White House personnel to wait more than three months for a permanent top secret/sensitive compartmented information clearance though it has happened, said a former senior White House official in the Obama administration familiar with the process.

The scandal involving White House Staff Secretary Rob Porter's sudden resignation over domestic abuse allegations is only worsening.

The White House claims that the backlog of interim security clearances is a procedural effect of the review process carried out by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and White House Office of Security, which can take time to complete. That being said, I think the White House has acknowledged that they could have handled it better.

Burnley Battle Back To Earn Point Against Man City

"I can tell you that Rob has been effective in his role as staff secretary, and the president and chief of staff have had full confidence and trust in his abilities and his performance", she told reporters then.

At some point that day, The Daily Mail posted an interview with Porter's first wife, who also said that she was abused during their marriage.

"I was appalled when I learned of the allegations against Rob Porter". One ex-wife supplied photographs of herself with a black eye she said he had given her.

But while McGahn privately informed Porter and encouraged him to consider moving on, according to one of the two people briefed, no action was taken to immediately terminate him.

Law enforcement officials say the biggest red flags in clearance reviews tend to be when investigators catch a person lying - either on disclosure forms or in face-to-face interviews with agents. Months later, word got out that adviser Steven Bannon had been charged with domestic violence and battery against his ex-wife in 1996, but he went on to serve as White House Chief Strategist for the administration. He cited the 690,000 official DACA registrants and said that President Donald Trump effectively raised that number to include 1.8 million people.

Trump wished former White House staff secretary Rob Porter well and applauded the alleged wife beater's work while in the West Wing. Porter the Trump administration's staff secretary resigned February 7.

On Wednesday evening, Kelly issued a second statement about the allegations.

Kelly issued a statement Tuesday that was supportive of Porter after a news report detailing the domestic violence allegations came out. "The reality behind them is nowhere close to what is being described", he said in a statement announcing his resignation.
