Defence Minister, two others to carry out assessment of Boko Haram attack

Chibok school girls

The state-run boarding school in Dapchi caters for girls aged 11 and above from across Yobe state, which is one of three worst affected by the insurgency.

Yobe police commissioner Abdumaliki Sunmonu, said the students are being profiled to know who is missing.

He reported that only 610 of the total number of 704 students had returned to the school when the head count was conducted on Tuesday. We have 1,000 students in this school.

"Many of us are traumatized", she said, adding that the school had given students a one-week break after the ordeal.

He, however, advised parents to report to the school whenever their children arrived home so as to update the existing list. "No case of abduction has so far been established", he told reporters in the Yobe state capital, Damaturu.

The minister disclosed this in a chat with state house correspondents after the meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC). We still don't know how many of our daughters were recovered and how many are still missing.

President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki and the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP have tasked the nation's security agencies on the 94 school girls allegedly abducted by Boko Haram insurgents.

Oxfam warned over public funding following aid worker scandal
The charity's deputy chief executive, Penny Lawrence, who joined Oxfam in 2006 as global programmes director resigned yesterday. The EU also threatened to strip Oxfam of its £40million a year funding to the charity - a tenth of its total annual income.

Mohammed Alamin, the commissioner for Education for Yobe State, described how some of the terrified students jumped over walls to flee the militants who turned up at their school with trucks, in a eerie echo of the Chibok girls abduction almost four years ago.

Inuwa Mohammed, whose 16-year-old daughter, Falmata, is also missing, said it was a confused picture and that parents had been frantically searching surrounding villages. "We have no idea where she's now, her sister said they were at the hall when the insurgents struck, and it was the last time she saw her".

Aisha Kachalla, one of the students who fled, narrated the incident to TheCable.

It said the closure was to enable students re-unite with their families to douse tension of fear of possible abduction by Boko Haram during the attack.

AFP reports that the Yobe state governor Ibrahim Gaidam said "over 50" remained unaccounted for while the police commissioner of the state said 111 were still missing.

Some of the students told Daily Trust that they would not return to the school until government stations security operatives in the school.
