Twitter is working to expand its verification to everyone

Twitter may soon allow any user to sport the signature blue badge that already shows up on the accounts of many celebrities, athletes and public figures.

Speaking in a live Periscope stream, Dorsey said: "The intention is to open verification to everyone".

Twitter's verification process has previously been the subject of controversy after the company reportedly verified white supremacist organizers of the Charlottesville rally. The proposed system could be similar to on-demand services like Airbnb and Uber, which ask users to submit documentation and link other social accounts.

Dorsey said he wants the verification process to be scalable and to proceed in a fashion that gets Twitter out of the way and eliminates any bias from the process.

Trump praises Chinese President's power grab
He has also pursued a relentless but popular campaign against corruption that has punished more than a million party officials. China also opened its markets to import soya beans, beef and oil from US.

The Twitter page on verification now reads, "The blue verified badge on Twitter lets people know that an account of public interest is authentic".

Furthermore, Twitter product director David Gasca noted during the stream that one of the problems with the verification platform is that people view the blue checkmark as an endorsement by the company, which is not the case. Twitter eventually began verifying other users including artists, journalists and other people of interest who were active on the platform. Users had to comply with specific rules, prove their identity, and finally be judged by Twitter as worthy of being verified.

Within the past year, Twitter has drawn national media attention and heightened scrutiny from members of Congress over attempts by foreign users to meddle in the 2016 presidential election, efforts to harass and abuse other users, and the abundance of automated accounts that amplify misinformation. Therefore, unless they were established writers, creators, or influencers, the average user was often denied a blue tick. "The main problem is, we use [the checkmark] to mean identity", he said.

"Short answer is going to be yes", said Dorsey in response to the question. "Overall, we're just thinking about the profile on the platform and how can we increase context so that you know, when you see someone, how to evaluate what they're saying ... how you should interpret their message based on who they are and what their history is". It has, in many ways, become a status symbol.
