ESPN shuffles Sean McDonough out of 'Monday Night Football' booth

ESPN's Monday Night Football

The more obvious truth is that, with Jon Gruden leaving, ESPN will be crafting a brand-new booth, with Joe Tessitore taking over the job (he likely doesn't view the move from college football to Monday Night Football as anything other than a significant step up). This follows McDonough's two season's as the play-by-play voice of Monday Night Football.

McDonough replaced Mike Tirico in 2017 after he left ESPN for National Basketball Association. Love him on college hoops and college football. Marchand notes that he's never called an National Football League game, while also implying that the National Football League itself wasn't particularly enamored with McDonough as the voice of one of its signature properties.

Sports Illustrated is reporting Friday night that Sean McDonough is out as the Monday Night Football play-by-play man. "I look forward to reuniting with ESPN's college football team where I have so many close friends in front of and behind the camera".

Heather Locklear threatened to shoot deputies, warrant says
Sources have told ET that Locklear's life had been " spiraling out of control " recently, leading up to her latest arrest . She was not only verbally uncooperative but physically abusive to officers, ' a LA police spokesperson said at the time.

So at this point, ESPN's entire Monday Night Football booth is open.

ESPN has yet to comment on the report - or who could potentially replace McDonough in the aftermath. How the exit of McDonough, who was solid in his two-year stint alongside Gruden despite college sports being his true wheelhouse, could affect Manning's thinking is unknown. He also spent 10 years at CBS Sports when he was the network's lead college football play-by-play announcer from 1997 to 1999. He only spent two seasons in the National Football League, but the college game will certainly welcome the talented play-by-play man back with open arms.

Here's hoping McDonough calls some SEC games in 2018.
