Microsoft to Open Datacenters in Abu Dhabi and Dubai

Reuters

Although Microsoft does not reveal earnings by region, a year ago it reported that the Middle East and Africa is one of the fastest growing regions in the world for its cloud computing business. The expansion is the result of customer demand, showing Microsoft is following their money and further pushing to compete with Amazon and Google in the cloud wars.

The new data centers in UAE, which are set to open in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, will be Microsoft's first in the Middle East.

The cloud-computing sites are expected to be available by 2019, the Redmond, Washington-based company said in an emailed statement on Wednesday.

As more data retention laws are signed, having local data centers strategically located throughout the world will become a strength of Microsoft's cloud services. Microsoft, which now has 42 Azure cloud regions, is racing Amazon Web Services to add new areas as both companies aim to store information and applications closer to customers.

Microsoft today also announced the general availability of Azure and Microsoft 365 in France.

CBI Spl Court extends custody of Karti
Meanwhile, CBI officials speaking to HT on the condition of anonymity, said that Karti was not cooperating in their investigation. In a breather for Karti earlier on Friday, the Delhi High Court granted him interim protection from arrest in the INX Media case.

Using the two solutions together means customers can save costs, while also benefitting from guaranteed data consistency and continuous availability, WANDisco explained. Microsoft said this is a first for an worldwide cloud provider to have a local site in Switzerland, and the move follows consultation with local financial service providers about their needs.

It can be cheaper and easier to deal with existing regulatory requirements if cloud-computing companies choose to lease and operate in existing data center facilities while also partnering with local companies.

Microsoft also plans to open two cloud sites in Switzerland, in the Geneva and Zurich regions, and will add two new locations in Germany. "Together, we have to seize the opportunities to build the economy of tomorrow".

"If it's economically viable, I'll be happy to talk to you", Keane said when asked about possible Antarctica or Arctic data centers.
