New York Jets: Four viable remaining free agents

NFL Draft 2018 Jets acquire No. 3 overall pick from Colts

The New York Jets announced Saturday that they acquired the No. 3 overall pick in the 2018 National Football League draft from the Indianapolis Colts for multiple selections. There has been no shortage of QB talk in regards to this draft and the Jets clearly want a seat at that table.

It is the third consecutive year that one of the top three overall picks in the National Football League draft has been traded. They also agreed to terms with former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater - also on a one-year contract, according to published reports.

What Does This All Mean?

The first week of free agency is nearly like Christmas, with all of the teams going under their respective trees to open their new gifts.

After losing to Minnesota in the Kirk Cousins sweepstakes at the start of free agency, NY re-signed Josh McCown and agreed to terms with Teddy Bridgewater, each on one-year deals.

That leaves Ballard with nine overall selections, including three second-rounders and four of the top 49 picks.

Although, if the Browns and Giants still do go ahead and draft quarterbacks early on, the Jets will still have options.

The Giants could be a threat to draft Darnold, however, I think a quarterback like Josh Rosen would fit their needs better.

Hesson confident Taylor will be fit for day-night Test against England
A yet to be confirmed New Zealand "A" tour will allow Hesson to get a greater gauge on several fringe World Cup hopefuls. Southee took just two wickets at 128.50 in the five games and was belted for 1-87 from 10 overs in Dunedin.

General manager Mike Maccagnan has been zeroing in on the QBs up close, attending the pro days of both Mayfield and Rosen.

Some may question if the trade was worth it, however.

The team announced on Saturday they have acquired the number three overall pick in the draft from the Indianapolis Colts. "We feel like at (No.) 6, we'll still be able to get a premium player".

For the Jets, they can now take whatever quarterback is left on the board after the Cleveland Browns pick at number one. "And after that, Louisville (Jackson) and Oklahoma State (Rudolph) are going to end up going a lot higher than they probably should".

This leaves no doubt that the Jets are going after an elite quarterback. It also adds some intrigue with the Giants and Jets picking back-to-back at No. 2 and No. 3.

But for now we wait.
