Desperate to Regain Trust, Facebook Refreshes Privacy Tools

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg

Last week, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg acknowledged his company had "made mistakes", and announced a range of measures in response - including an audit of all apps that had access to large amounts of information. After surging to a 52-week high of $195 in January, shares have retreated to levels where they traded last July. "The experience is now clearer, more visual, and easy to find".

Still firmly in damage limitation mode, Facebook has announced updates to how its bewildering settings menus are displayed and how the privacy of its two billion users can be tightened.

The company's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has repeatedly apologized and bought full-page advertisements in USA and British newspapers promising to do more to restrict access to users' information.

From the new page, users can control the personal information the social network keeps on them, such as their political preferences or interests, and download and review a file of data Facebook has collected about them.

There's a new Privacy shortcuts menu that allows you to control your data with a single tap.

Facebook is giving its privacy tools a makeover as it reels from criticisms over its data practices and faces tighter European regulations in the coming months. What we try to do is send the person at Facebook who will have the most knowledge about what Congress is trying to learn. Facebook, as you might expect, doesn't actually cover that in today's announcement, so if you're wondering if Facebook holds onto your information even after you've deleted it, it's probably safe to assume it does. But she added that the committee is "continuing to work with Facebook to determine a day and time for Mr. Zuckerberg to testify".

United Kingdom minister: We will implement the result of the European Union referendum
Wylie said he "absolutely" believes AggregateIQ drew on Cambridge Analytica's databases for its work on the Brexit campaign. President Donald Trump's 2016 election campaign. "It's about the integrity of the democratic process".

According to the ads, a quiz app built by a Cambridge University researcher leaked Facebook data of millions of people four years ago.

Facebook is trying to win back the public by showing it cares about their privacy.

The congressional hearings were prompted by revelations that data consultancy Cambridge Analytica had wrongfully obtained personal information on at least 30 million American Facebook users.

In a bid to make it easier for users to manage their privacy Facebook has redesigned its settings menu on mobile devices.

The company is also working with regulators and privacy experts on updates to its terms of services and its data policy to make them more transparent.
