Widow of Pulse nightclub gunman found not guilty

Wife of Pulse nightclub killer Omar Mateen found not guilty of aiding husband's attack that left 49 people dead

Charles Swift argued there was no way Salman knew that Mateen would attack the Pulse nightclub because he himself did not know he would attack it until moments before the shooting. She falsely claimed that her husband didn't use the internet in their home, that he had deactivated his Facebook account years earlier, that he had one gun when he had three, and that he wasn't radicalized, they said.

"I believe in our criminal justice system and am grateful for the jury's hard work and thoughtful deliberation".

Given the blatant misrepresentations in the government's case, the jury definitely made the right call.

A visibly anxious Salman, wearing a dark suit, stood in federal court as the verdict was read.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer wrote on Twitter: "Hopefully the conclusion of the trial related to the Pulse tragedy can help our community continue the healing process". But on Friday, she left the courthouse a free woman.

"This verdict can not and will not divide us", she said in a statement.

Among the discontented was a group of protesters who gathered outside Pulse to protest the verdict. She faces up to life in prison if convicted of all charges. "We can't commit another innocent person".

"We knew from day one she was innocent", Ms Salman's aunt Susan Adieh told reporters just after the verdict on Friday. "She wants to get back to her son", her attorney Linda Moreno said. A survivor told jurors of trying desperately to survive, holed up in a bathroom stall with Mateen outside. Police killed Mateen after the attack.

Offering an especially chilling detail, Ms. Sweeney suggested that Mr. Mateen bought a baby carriage and doll at a Walmart the night before the massacre so that he could hide his AR-15 assault rifle and draw no suspicion as he walked toward what prosecutors believe was his intended target, the Disney Springs shopping and entertainment complex, formerly known as Downtown Disney.

Jurors, though, were not asked to weigh in on the horror Mateen inflicted, but rather, to assess his wife's culpability in the matter.

Padres' Joey Lucchesi to make first Major League Baseball start Friday against Brewers
The Padres shouldn't be an underdog at home to start the season; the Brewers shouldn't be a favorite on the road. He has also had career-long success against the Padres, going 6-2 with a 3.07 ERA in 14 games and 10 starts.

Salman also advised Mateen to lie to his mother when she inquired about his whereabouts on the night of the shooting, prosecutors said.

" Those people straight influenced by this catastrophe needs to locate tranquility in our hearts and also keep in mind that [Mateen] was the one that shot that evening", she included.

"Of the 162 federal prosecutions of ISIS-related cases in the U.S. between March 2014 - when the the first ISIS-related indictment was obtained - and March 15, 2018, 106 have resulted in convictions, according to the Center on National Security at Fordham University's School of Law".

Federal Bureau of Investigation special agent Ricardo Enriquez testified that Salman said in several statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation that Mateen watched jihadi beheading videos, purchased a rifle and ammunition and went to a gun range to practice.

Some other evidence was mixed.

What do you think of Noor's acquittal?

She talked with her in-laws, ate at Applebee's and texted Mateen.

Salman also said in the statement that she had accompanied Mateen while casing Pulse and other potential targets.

During the trial, prosecutors said Ms Mateen, who was born in NY to Afghan immigrants, meant to attack Disney World's shopping and entertainment complex by hiding a gun in a stroller but became spooked by police and instead chose the gay club as his target. Those, they argued, did not seem to be the actions of someone who knew Mateen was about to die in a terrorist-inspired shooting. "That's what they prevented".
