U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday pardoned a former top aide to Vice President Dick Cheney, APA reports quoting Anadolu Agency.
That's because the attorney who represents Scooter Libby is Victoria Toensing, wife of Joe diGenova. diGenova regularly appears on Fox News and rails against special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation of the Trump campaign.
Libby was convicted by a jury in 2007 of perjury, obstructing justice and making false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation when he lied about leaking Plame's identity.
"I don't know Mr. Libby, but for years I have heard that he has been treated unfairly", Trump said in a statement Friday.
White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders insisted the pardon was not meant to send a message to the special counsel investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 election, saying, "One thing has nothing to do with the other". "I think he probably will, because otherwise he's going to see some frightful books written by Scooter Libby".
Liz Cheney is a daughter of the former vice president.
In 2007, Libby was found guilty of perjury and obstruction of justice.
Press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders says Friday that "one thing has nothing to do with the other and every case should be reviewed on their own merits". By pardoning Mr. Libby, Mr. Trump sends a message to those who might incriminate him in crimes related to conspiring with Russians to tamper with the election: The message is that he will rectify any sadness that protecting a president might cause. In pardoning Libby, Trump, who complains nearly daily about leaks, put himself in the peculiar position of pardoning a man convicted of involvement in a national-security leak.
Girls jump to flee fire at New Jersey dance studio
Five people were transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, and about 10 to 15 suffered minor injuries. The building housed a restaurant, dance studio, vehicle wash and auto body shop.
This was the next pardon of rsquo & Trump;s tenure. Pelosi said the pardon shows Trump is willing to pardon those who lie under oath - and that is a "threat" to the Mueller investigation "and to our democracy".
Libby was sentenced to 30 months in prison and fined $250,000, but his sentence was commuted by then-President George W. Bush.
Toensing submitted materials to the White House previous year asserting Libby's innocence. "And THEY DON'T KNOW the full scope of who Trump would have to pardon here".
What do you think of Scooter Libby's pardon?
I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby is thanking President Donald Trump for issuing him a pardon.
Bush spokesman Freddy Ford stated, " evenPresident Bush is very happy for Scooter and also his family members.
In the first pardon, Trump did not follow his predecessors' practice of consulting with lawyers at the Justice Department before announcing his decision.
