Gold double for New Zealand

Australia and England complete Women's Sevens Commonwealth semi-final line-up

Both New Zealand sevens sides competing at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast have claimed gold medals in their respective tournaments.

The Blitzboks have yet to be tested at the Commonwealth Games after thrashing Papua New Guinea 52-0 in their second group match on Australia's Gold Coast on Saturday.

Abigail Brown's side bounced back in style in the bronze medal match against Canada, earning a 19-5 half-time lead as tries from Lydia Thompson, Debbie Fleming and Claire Allan proved just enough to hold off a late charge and triumph 24-19.

Then it was the turn of New Zealand and Canada, the second and third ranked teams in this year's HSBC World Rugby Women's Sevens Series, to duel for top spot in Pool A and a semi-final with the Pool B runner-up on Sunday.

The Black Ferns sevens are the inaugural Commonwealth Games champions, with women's sevens included in the Games programme for the first time.

The bottom two teams in each pool now exit the competition with Australia to face Kenya and Scotland to meet Wales in the first stage of the fifth to eighth place play-offs.

Social media explodes following the latest Yankees-Red Sox brawl
Red Sox first baseman Hanley Ramirez had to leave the game after he was hit by a pitch on his left elbow in the first inning. He made three starts against the Red Sox in 2017 and compiled a 1-2 record against them with a 4.50 ERA and 17 strikeouts.

Facing a ferociously partisan crowd in the women's final against Australia, Kelly Brazier's 60-metre dash deep into extra-time had given the New Zealand women a 17-12 victory.

New Zealand even had an opportunity to put the game completely beyond doubt when Fiji's Sevuloni Mocenecagi was given a yellow card for an early tackle on Sam Dickson.

Under the pump throughout the first half, Australia conceded a penalty with less than a minute until halftime, with the Kiwis taking a quick tap and scoring on the left through Michaela Blyde.

The men's Final followed and similarly New Zealand dominated the opening spell, going into the break 14-0.

An overthrown lineout allowed Emille Cherry to score and peg the gap back to 12-7, but captain Charlotte Caslick was forced out of the rest of the match through injury.
