Trial still on: Judge does not dismiss charge against Greitens

Judge rules on Greitens' felony dismissal request

The felony invasion of privacy case against Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens can continue, Circuit Judge Rex Burlison ruled in St. Louis on Thursday.

Greitens calls the suggestion of a new charge "ridiculous".

"While the governor admitted to the affair, he's strenuously denied the woman's characterizations of his behavior".

On Monday, Greitens' attorney Jim Martin said 11 pages of private investigator William Tisaby's notes from a deposition of a friend of the woman, requested weeks ago, were not turned over until Sunday, after Martin threatened to go to court to ask for them.

The accusation that the list was used for political fundraising was first lodged against Greitens in 2016, before his campaign victory. A crime Hawley says could be a felony. Hawley can not bring the charge himself, but asked St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner to prosecute.

Greitens was indicted in February on one count of invasion of privacy. Each time, defense attorneys said, the missing evidence was helpful to their case because it called the woman's credibility into question. The woman testified to the state House of Representatives committee that she believes it was taken while she was bound and blindfolded, and partially nude, in Greitens' basement.

Putin tells Netanyahu to tread lightly in Syria
The T-4 base had already been targeted by Israeli air raids in February, in retaliation for a drone sent to its territory by Iran.

Gardner's office says that taking the photograph as described, without consent, would violate state law.

Defense lawyers also accused a former Federal Bureau of Investigation officer Gardner hired as a private investigator of lying to the court under oath. "It's embarrassing and we need to be moving forward to resolve this sooner than later".

But in the case of an impeachment of a Missouri Governor, dates don't matter. "And last week, a detailed investigation by the Missouri House painted the former Navy SEAL as being sexually and physically abusive in the affair". In it, the woman involved says Greitens coerced her into performing a sex act after taking the photo, slapped her, verbally abused her and left her crying uncontrollably.

Greitens has said the relationship with the woman was "entirely consensual". His lawyers said the case should be thrown out because of the conduct of the St. Louis circuit attorney's office. But he's been hemorrhaging support from fellow Republicans across the state ever since the scandal broke. Eric built The Mission Continues from scratch, and he helped thousands of veterans by doing so. Greitens' campaign filed amended finance reports referring to the list as an in-kind contribution valued at $600 and received March 1, 2015, from Danny Laub, who was listed as Greitens' campaign manager at the time. He said Greitens could be charged with a felony because the donor list produced a gain to Greitens' campaign of more than $500. The Mission Continues denies it gave it voluntarily.

The charity said in a statement that it is "fully cooperating" with Hawley's office and does not engage in political activities, adding that it did not promote Greitens' political career.

The Mission Continues has been very clear that they did not authorize the use of the list. Greitens and Hawley both won election in 2016 as maverick political outsiders.
