Facebook blames 'bug' for unusual hate speech prompt

A mysterious glitch on Facebook asked if every single post was 'hate speech'

It looked like Facebook was trying to bolster its forever-war against hate speech on the platform, primarily fought with algorithms and human staffers, by simply asking users to call it out.

Well, today, Facebook started to push down an update with buttons that say "Does this post contain hate speech?" It's not clear how many users were affected, but for those who were, the internal feature showed up in every timeline post, including advertisements. Each post also gives the option to dismiss the question with a tiny "x" box to the right of the answers. These buttons are located at the bottom of each post, prompting all users to let them know whether or not hate speech is being used.

Just last month, Zuckerberg testified before Congress on how Facebook will respond to the data scandal involving firm Cambridge Analytica.

Acuna hits first HR, leads Braves past Reds
The losing pitcher was Shackelford (0-1), who allowed the tying run to score in the eighth and put two runners on in the ninth. White Sox 6, Royals 3 • Matt Davidson hit two of Chicago's five home runs in the first six innings in a win at Kansas City.

And for the Family Research Council.

The "hate speech" question appeared for less than 30 minutes before disappearing by noon ET.

On April 24, Facebook had released a rule book for the types of posts it allows on its social network, giving far more detail than ever before on what is permitted on subjects ranging from drug use and sex work to bullying, hate speech and inciting violence. Nowhere in the hate speech button portal was there an option to find the definition of hate speech. They said a bug caused the button to launch publicly but it has since been disabled. "Why are you asking if I'm committing hate speech?"
