Is Facebook Going To Be The Next Tinder?

Facebook is taking on Tinder and the internet is saying 'swipe left.'

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced two days ago, while giving a speech at a developer conference, that the company is getting ready to release Facebook Dating.

"Facebook is in a very competitive space", Seidman said, referring to serious dating.

We're starting with a feature that addresses feedback we've heard consistently from people who use Facebook, privacy advocates and regulators: everyone should have more information and control over the data Facebook receives from other websites and apps that use our services.

The smattering of new features have brought confusion to Facebook users as well, but not at the expense of enthusiasm.

Due to the recent scandal, people are anxious about privacy but the CEO personally told the crowd at the press conference that they built the whole system from the ground up while keeping security in mind.

Facebook has revealed more information about dating service in a blog post which states that "However, what people do within the dating feature will not be shown to their friends. And if we're focused on helping people build meaningful relationships then this is perhaps the most meaningful one of all". Are they going to be willing to give up their data as long as they have this wonderful experience where they have handy and faithful Facebook dishing out what they like the most?

According to the announcement, this new feature would allow people who are not friends on Facebook to connect.

Amazon bids for 60% stake in Flipkart, potentially spoiling Walmart deal
People in the know said that Flipkart has that kept its options open for the initial public offer (IPO) in the future. According to CNBC TV18 in India , citing sources, Amazon's offer is for 60 per cent of the Indian online store.

Seidman also said, "Facebook has lots of things to think about". In announcing the feature, Zuckerberg was quick to point out that, "Facebook won't be quite as good as it relearns your preferences".

First, do you really want Facebook (which has recently been in the news for all the wrong reasons) to have access to your dating history?

This new dating feature will give Facebook the chance to leverage its massive network of users as well as data on relationships (thanks to the option in Facebook where users can publicize their relationship statuses), not to forget its big financial resources to challenge competing dating apps. Back in January, there was a brief mention of Carter doing work for Facebook, but at the time it was not known that he'd actually left eHarmony months before that.

"This has been an intense year", Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg quipped on Tuesday morning.

The difficulty of creating a popular dating site was also cited by Daniel Kurnos, an analyst at the Benchmark Company, who cautioned it was not an overnight project and one that requires much more than sheer machine learning. Such information is often collected when a user signs in to an outside site or app using their Facebook login.

The next step is, apparently, to take advantage of Facebook's groups and events features.
