Neuer in Germany World Cup squad, Sane left out

World Cup 2018: Leroy Sane left out of Germany World Cup squad

Reigning champions Germany have named their final 23-man squad for this summer's tournament in Russian Federation, but Manchester City winger Leroy Sane surprisingly hasn't made the cut after the preliminary list was whittled down from its original 27 players.

The 22-year-old winger was one of the brightest stars in the Citizens' team that dominated the Premier League and won the League Cup.

Despite his fine form for City, Sané has not been able to replicate it on the worldwide stage.

He only has 12 caps to his name, just six of those have been starts, and he is yet to score for his country but you can not say that he has not been given a fair chance to prove himself; four of his six starts have come in his last six outings.

The attacker was shockingly not called up to the German national side, the manager Joachim Löw opting for players Marco Reus and Julian Draxler ahead of the speedster.

Despite Sane's fine performances this season, Low has instead favoured Bayern Leverkusen's winger Julien Brandt.

‘Wonder Woman 2’ producer teases what year the sequel takes place
This also means that the sequel will take place around 60 years after the original, which was set during World War 1. Then again this film is about a war, so none of that would probably make it into the final film.

"Leroy is a huge talent".

Brandt scored in six consecutive league games in 2016, becoming the youngest player to do so in the Bundesliga since Gerd Muller.

"There are better days in the life of a national team coach, when you have to send four unbelievable players, who deserve to be at the World Cup, home".

Sane was cut from the squad with Timo Werner and the veteran Mario Gomez included as just two out-and-out strikers. He was also in Germany's Confederations Cup winning squad last summer.

The big surprise of the announcement is the omission of Manchester City's Leroy Sane.

He also said dropping Crystal Palace's Christian Benteke was his "toughest decision".
