Ryan Says There’s ‘No Evidence’ The FBI Informant Spied On Trump’s Campaign

Ryan 'Obviously' Trump shouldn't pardon himself

"I have seen no evidence to the contrary of the initial assessment that Chairman Gowdy has made", Ryan said Wednesday.

Ryan said: "We have some more documents to review".

The Justice Department is offering lawmakers a new look next week at classified documents on the FBI's use of an informant in the Russian Federation investigation.

Ryan has been a frequent target of Democratic criticism for his role in aiding House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes' in his fight with the Justice Department for classified documents, including the latest dispute over documents related to an confidential source who spoke to Trump advisers as part of the FBI's counterintelligence investigation.

After reviewing highly classified information last week, Republican Representative Trey Gowdy, chairman of the House Government Oversight Committee, dismissed the assertion that United States agents targeted Trump.

Ryan said: "I don't know the technical answer to that question but obviously he shouldn't".

While President Trump has continued to claim the FBI planted "spies" into his campaign, Ryan said it "would have been helpful" if he had been briefed by the Department of Justice on the situation earlier, which he believes would allow lawmakers to conclude their investigation faster.

India's JSW Steel unveiled plans to spend $500 million to modernize an existing plant in Texas and build a new one. Stocks in the U.S. fell as the administration ignored the pleas from business lobbying groups including the U.S.

Ryan also rejected Trump's claim that FBI investigators illegally placed an informant inside his campaign. But three top Republicans who attended classified briefings on the subject last month, including House Speaker Paul Ryan, have said there was no evidence of a political spy.

House Speaker Paul Ryan is breaking with President Trump, agreeing with others who say there's no evidence that the Federal Bureau of Investigation planted a "spy" in Mr. Trump's 2016 presidential campaign in an effort to hurt his chances at the polls.

In his latest salvo on the Russian Federation probe, Trump's lawyer - former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani - said Wednesday that special counsel Robert Mueller's team is trying to frame Trump, the Associated Press reported.

Ryan was careful Wednesday not to disparage all of Nunes's complaints with the Justice Department, a list of grievances that includes several unfulfilled demands for documents unrelated to the spying accusations.

There have already been rumblings about ousting Ryan as speaker before the end of his term, and on Wednesday conservatives incensed by Ryan's Spygate rejection pushed the discussion into the open. Conservatives are demanding a vote on a much harsher bill and nothing else, and they're blaming Ryan for failing to stop the moderates. Lame Duck Speaker: "Get the hell out of the office, you're going to send us to perdition and destruction in the midterm elections".

And he warned that Trump should not try to pardon himself, despite Trump's assertion two days earlier that the president has the power to take such a step. "If I am watching you without your knowledge, gathering information without your knowledge, don't tell you about it, I'm spying on you", Carlson said.
